Beginning with the Viña del Año award from Descorchados 2022, Viña Morandé had a great year. And it is that both national and international media filled all the company’s wine lines with praise and good scores.
2022 has been a year of consolidation for Viña Morandé. This began with the appointment by the national guide Descorchados as Viña del Año. This award, which was given to a Chilean winery for the first time, distinguished the dynamic, adventurous and groundbreaking spirit that it has shown throughout its career.
As the Best Red Wine from Chile was designated by the 2022 guide, the 2023 version once again highlighted House of Morandé 2020 with outstanding 96 points, leading the Best Maipo Andes and Best Red Blends ranking. For its part, the sparkling Brut Nature obtained 95 points and was chosen Best Sparkling.
In the same guide, Black Series Chardonnay 2021, was highlighted with 94 points, like Vigno 2020. Bestiario 2022, was part of the Best Orange ranking and obtained 93 points, like Edición Limitada Carmenère 2020, El Gran Petit 2021, Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2021 and Tirazis 2020.
For its part, La Cav magazine, the most important wine publication in the country, awarded House of Morandé 2020, for the second consecutive year, the distinction of Best Iconic Wine of Chile a few weeks ago. Likewise, it awarded Edición Limitada Carmenère 2020 (97 points) and Bestiario 2021 (95 points) as Best Carmenère and Best White Blend, respectively, as well as Brut Nature for the best sparkling wine in Chile.
Ricardo Baettig, the winery’s winemaking director, was highlighted for his impeccable career of more than 10 years in charge of Viña Morandé and received recognition for Best Winemaker 2022. This award is added to the most important recognition given by the national media, from Vineyard of the Year 2022, which recognizes the value of Morandé as a change agent in the Chilean industry and its visible dynamism and commitment to excellence and innovation.
Other notable scores from La Cav were: 96 points for Golden Harvest 2013; 95 points for Tirazis 2021 and El Padre 2020; and 93 points for Mediterráneo 2018, Vigno 2018, Colinas de Ránquil 2020, Aterciopelado 2020, Creole 2020 and Despechado 2020.
International scores
These important achievements have not only been at the national level. During 2022, Viña Morandé was also featured in James Suckling’s Chilean wine report, where Zekun Shuai, senior editor, mentioned its tireless and successful spirit of exploring new varieties and terroirs. It also awarded excellent scores to more than 18 wines from its production, where 94 points stood out for House of Morandé 2019 and Vigno 2019, and 93 points for Blanc de Noir 2013, where the three wines were part of the exclusive list of the TOP 100 WINES OF CHILE 2022.
Likewise, The Drinks Business highlighted Morandé Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2020 among the best Sauvignon Blancs of the year and Black Series Chardonnay among the 20 best Chardonnays in the world.
Vinous, the American media, for its part, awarded 94 points to House of Morandé 2019 and 93 points to the Black Series 2020 line. Marcelo Copello, Brazilian wine critic, awarded 98 points to House of Morandé 2019, 96 to Black Series Pinot Noir 2020, 95 to Black Series Chardonnay 2020 and 94 to Vigno 2019.
Finally, Tim Atkin, another great critic of the international wine world, mentioned in his report Black Series Chardonnay 2020 to which he awarded 95 points, Blanc de Noir 2013 and Vigno 2019 with 93 points.
