EXCELLENT SCORES IN 2021 FOR VIÑA MORANDÉ’S KEY WINES

An unforgettable year for Viña Morandé, filled with praise from the Chilean and international press for the company’s key wines.

There’s absolutely no doubt about it—2021 was a memorable year for Morandé wines. Prominent magazines and specialized media such as Decanter, Wine & Spirits, and Vinous, as well as the wine industry’s great critics Robert Parker, James Suckling, Tim Atkin, and others tasted and positively evaluated the different varieties.

One of the wines that stood out in 2021 was House of Morandé. The 2019 vintage of this Bordeaux-style blend from Maipo Alto obtained 98 points in the 2022 edition of Descorchados, Chile’s most important wine guide by wine writer and journalist Patricio Tapia. It also earned awards in the Best Red Wine from Chile, Best Red Blend, and Best Wine from Maipo Andes categories. These accolades clearly establish House of Morandé as a world-class benchmark among Chile’s high-end wines.

The 2018 vintage of this wine received an outstanding 96 points and a Gold Medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards, 94 points from Tim Atkin, and 93 points from Vinous and Robert Parker, who also praised this vintage’s freshness, fine tannins, and good structure.

Another of the wines that attracted a great deal of attention this year was the 2018 Vigno, which received 95 points from Robert Parker, who applauded its contained ripeness and soft texture. It also received 93 points from Tim Atkin and Vinous, as well as James Suckling, who celebrated its fine-grained tannins, tangy acidity, and flavorful finish.

Vigno’s 2019 vintage also fared extremely well this year with 94 points in the 2022 Descorchados, where it also ranked among the Best Carignans.

It was also an excellent year for the Black Series line, whose 2020 Edición Limitada Chardonnay was highlighted with 94 points in the Descorchados guide and listed among the Best Chardonnays, the Best from Malleco, and the Best-Value Whites under CLP20,000. The Black Series 2020 Edición Limitada Pinot Noir received 93 points and appeared among the Best from Malleco.

Other wines that also drew praise this year include the 2013 Golden Harvest, which Tim Atkin gave 96 points in his Special Report on Chile, where it was also named the Best Sweet Wine of Chile. And the new Blanc de Noir sparkling wine, which made its debut this year and earned 96 points in the 2022 Descorchados and was named the year’s Best Sparkling Wine and among the Best from Casablanca.

Other Accolades

  • The 2020 Bestiario, one of Morandé Adventure’s most disruptive wines, earned 93 points from La CAV.
  • The 2019 Edición Limitada Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon received 94 points in the 2022 Descorchados and 93 points in La CAV.
  • The 2019 Morandé Gran Reserva Chardonnay and the Morandé Vinos del Maule Cinsault País were awarded 93 points from Wine & Spirits and were mentioned in the Best Buy category.
  • Vinous awarded 93 points to the 2020 Despechado and underscored its exuberant freshness, velvety and earthy texture, and its long and juicy finish.
  • The 2020 Pionero Cabernet Sauvignon was recognized with a Double Gold Medal in the 2022 Women’s Wine & Spirits Awards, and the Gran Reserva Carmenere earned a Gold Medal.
