Pionero, the flagship line of Viña Morandé

Pionero could be said to be the line that reflects the innovative and experimental spirit that has always mobilized the winery. With these wines, the Casablanca and Maule valleys show all their potential in their varietals, where the expression of the fruit is undoubtedly the great protagonist.

Respect for the terroir, the constant focus on innovation and the production of high-quality wines are the most important pillars at Viña Morandé. And it is that since its inception, the winery has sought to create wines that reflect its dynamic and adventurous spirit, in addition to being able to show the best expression of the terroirs where it works.

One of its lines that best reflects this spirit is undoubtedly Pioneer, which symbolizes the constant exploration of new lands, mixtures and styles. For us, this line and these wines reflect the potential of the varietals that we have in the Casablanca and Maule valleys, where the expression of the fruit is the protagonist.

Pionero’s portfolio includes 8 wines. A Cabernet Sauvignon from the Maule Valley, with notes of black fruits such as maqui, blueberry and notes of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. In the mouth it feels good structure and medium body, with fruity flavors, dark chocolate and coffee. The Carmenère, for its part, is a purple-red wine with violet hues. It has notes of fruits such as blackberries and cherries and on the palate, it is smooth, spicy and medium-bodied. It comes from the Maule Valley, like Pionero Merlot, which is characterized by its notes of black fruits and spices such as cinnamon and fresh herbs. It is a fruity, juicy wine with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long persistence.

Pionero País, made up of 85% País vines and 15% Cinsault vines, both from the Maule Valley, is a fresh, light-bodied wine with notes of red fruits such as raspberries and sour cherries. Pioneer Pinot Noir, for its part, is made up of 93% Pinot Noir and 7% Chardonnay from the Casablanca Valley. It is a delicate, very fresh wine, which balances its acidity and its fine tannic plot very well. It has notes of red fruits and spices. The Rosé, also from the Casablanca Valley, is a pale pink wine with notes of forest fruits such as raspberries and strawberries and flowers. On the palate it is delicate and with a fresh texture.

Continuing with the white varieties, Pionero Sauvignon Blanc, from the Maule Valley, is a creamy wine with significant volume on the palate, thanks to the fact that, during its aging, the wine is kept on its fine lees until it is bottled. It is fresh, fruity and with a tense acidity, with a balanced body and a long finish.

Finally, Pionero Chardonnay is a pale and bright yellow wine, with citrus and fruit notes reminiscent of pear, green apple and fresh pineapple. On the palate it is a fresh, fruity and balanced wine. Medium bodied and creamy, with very good persistence.

Each of these 8 wines accurately reflects that spirit that, for years, has been our main guide. Each of them is synonymous with innovation, experimentation, adventure and dynamism, a mixture that not only describes this incredible line of wines, but also all of Viña Morandé.
