Terroir Wines, wines with a sense of place

This line of wines gathers the pioneering and adventurous experience of Viña Morandé, rescuing ancient winemaking practices under a modern prism. They are simple wines, with a clear identity that masterfully exemplifies the value of the old, new Chile.

Viña Morandé’s search to find new expressions, valleys, and techniques to create unique and non-traditional wines is something that has marked its 25-year history. Along this path, the Maule Valley has been a great protagonist: one of the largest and most important wine valleys in Chile, which delivers terroirs with great potential, capable of producing emblematic varieties, with different expressions.

This is how Viña Morandé decided to create its Terroir Wines line of wines in this region, a project that seeks to make great wines from century-old vines, rescuing ancient traditions, its small artisan producers, its old top-pruned vines and everything which constitutes their cultural heritage.

The Terroir Wines portfolio has 4 wines, a Carmenère-Malbec, made with Carmenère vines from the Melozal field that were planted more than 20 years ago on granite soils, and Malbec vines from the La Constancia field planted more than 50 years ago on a clayey colluvial base soil. It is a round, smooth, and complex wine on the palate, with fruit in balance with its tannins and fresh juiciness.

Also, the portfolio has a Cinsault-País, made with grapes obtained from the La Constancia field, located in the eastern sector of the Coastal Range. It is an area of gentle hills, with granitic soils, red clays and some colluvial sectors. This wine is medium to light bodied, juicy, full of fruit flavors and great freshness.

The Semillón, for its part, is a bronze, yellow wine, clean and bright. It has aromas of citrus fruits, pear and honey and it is a dry, acidic, fresh and juicy wine. It is made with grapes from old vines that are located on the southern slope of the Loncomilla area in the Maule Valley.

Finally, the latest wine to join this portfolio is of the País variety. Its grapes come from the Secano Interior of the Melozal area. It is a wine with aromas of red fruits such as raspberries and sour cherries, as well as light notes of earth and spices reminiscent of cinnamon.

In this way, the Morandé Terroir Wines portfolio seeks to deliver accessible wines that highlight fruit, with a great sense of place. Wines that show years of history of an emblematic valley, understanding the idea of valuing this unique wine heritage in the world.
