22 Sep The excellent scores granted to Viña Morandé’s Gran Reserva wine range are a recognition for its tremendous consistency.
Luis Gutiérrez recognizes and rewards the consistency of Viña Morandé’s Gran Reserva wine range with excellent scores.
The wines by Viña Morandé received excellent scores in Luis Gutiérrez’s latest report published by the US magazine The Wine Advocate. Gutiérrez especially highlighted the consistency of our Gran Reserva line, with scores 90 +, thus recognizing the signature of their noble origins and innovative winemaking methods.
Each of the six wines that make up Viña Morandé’s Gran Reserva range, the one with the longest tradition and also the most innovative of our winery, come from our oldest vineyards, located in the valleys where each variety delivers its best expression. In the winemaking processes, we respect ancient methods but envisaged under a modern prism, which includes incorporating different containers and techniques for fermenting and aging our wines.
But other aspects also influence the high quality of the Gran Reserva wine range. Among others, our vineyards, such as the San Bernardo Vineyard, which shares with Puente Alto the same alluvial terrace of the Maipo River, internationally recognized as the cradle of world-class Cabernet Sauvignons. Our high-density planted vineyards (10,000 plants per hectare) of Maipo and Casablanca are another important element that influences the quality of our wines. In these estates, each vine delivers only one kilo of concentrated and tasty grapes that are harvested by hand and then, as in the case of Pinot Noir, fermented in small open wooden vats. Finally, the wines are aged in foudres specially made and toasted for them, or in 300 to 500-liter French oak barrels.
These excellent scores, bestowed to our Gran Reserva range by one of the world’s most renowned wine critics, fill us with pride. They reaffirm our vision for the future and motivate us to continue our efforts to find the best formula that combines the most suitable valleys for each variety.
