Viña Morandé: A portfolio with a pioneering spirit

With superior quality wines, a deep respect for the terroir and a constant focus on innovation, Morandé creates a portfolio that reflect its dynamic and adventurous spirit, through wines that convey the best expression of the terroirs from which they come.

Viña Morandé has a genuine history of innovation in search of excellence. Pioneers in the Casablanca Valley, as well as in the planting of high-density fields and one of the first to rescue terroirs and ancestral winemaking techniques, the innovative and experimental spirit of Viña Morandé is reflected in innumerable and attractive oenological creations. These cover the wide spectrum from a solid line of wines under the “Aventuras” project to wines made from frozen grapes to fortified wines, including a very notable Italian grappa-style distillate.

“Our wines reflect our permanent pioneering spirit. Our desire to go further, discovering new strains, frontiers and techniques that allow us to present a portfolio of wines with a clear proposal of quality, innovation and avant-garde”, says Ricardo Baettig, chief winemaker of the vineyard.

Pionero, varietal identity and freshness

Our spirit has led us to explore new lands, mixes and styles. Our pioneering line reflects the potential of our varietals from the Casablanca and Maule valleys. Here the varietal expression of the fruit is the protagonist.

Estate Reserva, identity and expression

Our commitment with this line is to produce wines with a place identity that express our different terroirs. The concept, vineyards planted in high density (10,100 pt/ha), where the objective is to obtain a bottle for each plant.

Gran Reserva, terroir and balance

Gran Reserva is Viña Morandé’s most traditional and modern line. It is made up of classic wines that transmit in each glass the complexity of their respective terroirs of origin, as well as a refined and contemporary elegance. Each of these authentic terroir wines comes from our oldest vineyards, located in the Maipo and Casablanca valleys.

The Gran Reserva line uses unconventional forms of vinification, such as the use of foudres, manual trampling, fermentation with stems, the use of cement eggs, among others.

Varietes:

Cabernet Sauvignon / Carmenére / Pinot Noir / Sauvignon Blanc / Chardonnay

Late Harvest, exponent of elegance

A craft wine, of tradition, of respect for the time of the processes. A wine of patient care, made thanks to the noble rot caused by botrytis cinerea. This phenomenon is not usual in the area, so we produce this type of wine only when we have these conditions. After obtaining a high-quality must, which is decanted and subsequently fermented in used French oak barrels, it is aged for at least nine months in the barrel and 2 months in the bottle.

Golden Harvest, crafts and delicacy

A unique “late harvest” produced in small quantities according to very particular climatic conditions. It is made only in those years in which the Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Casablanca Valley are 100% affected by botrytis cinerea; condition that has only occurred in the 2000, 2007 and 2013 vintages.

The creation of Golden Harvest has meant a true paradigm shift with respect to its category, being considered by many the best sweet wine in Chile. Once two musts from grapes in the process of raisining and a kind of honey from raisins have been obtained, where both are fermented in barrels for almost a year, a proportion equivalent to 6 puttonyos of botrytised grapes is added. This element is crucial to bringing Golden Harvest to life and the reason why it is fundamentally different from a traditional Late Harvest. After the exhaustion of the yeasts, the wine is kept for a second year in its original barrels, until it is bottled.

House of Morandé, experience and elegance

The experience supports this wine of excellence. Its elegance and balance come from the best quarters of the San Bernardo vineyard, (third geological terrace) located in the Alto Maipo in Maipo Valley. It is a classic Bordeaux blend whose base is Cabernet Sauvignon, which is complemented by other red varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Carignan, in percentages that vary from year to year. House of Morandé represents Viña Morandé’s interpretation of what a great Maipo red wine should be.

Vinos del Maule, tradition and identity

Coming from the most emblematic and largest valley in Chile, these wines highlight ancient traditions of the region, its artisan producers and all its current cultural heritage. This line reflects the pioneering experience of the winery in rescuing ancient winemaking practices, but under a modern prism.
