Viña Morandé: quality, vision and innovation

Since its beginning Viña Morandé has had a clear focus: quality and innovation that has undoubtedly been reflected in the continuous dedication to the national wine world. And it is that its pioneering spirit and its great vision of the future has led it to mark important milestones in the wine-growing history of our country.

Numerous milestones mark the history of Viña Morandé since its inception. Founded in 1996 by the outstanding oenologist Pablo Morandé, one of the most prominent wine personalities in the Chilean wine industry, Viña Morandé has always been recognized for being a Pioneer in countless milestones in Chile’s wine history.

The first winery to plant vines in the Casablanca Valley, an origin that has established itself as the perfect terroir for cold-climate varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. But that was only the start. Viña Morandé was a forerunner in creating the Aventuras line, highlighting the great diversity of terroirs present in Chile, thanks to its constant experimentation with different winemaking techniques, in addition to its valuable work in rescuing ancestral varieties, such as Carignan, País, Cinsault, among others. It has been the first to value the “Secano Interior” as an outstanding origin for ancestral varieties. Likewise, it has led the planting of high-density fields, a vitivinicultural technique that aims to create a virtuous interaction between soil, climate and variety, and thus obtain 1 bottle of wine for each vine, reducing production in order to achieve distinctive wines that express, with good concentrations, their respective varieties.

Likewise, Viña Morandé has produced a good number of attractive oenological creations giving life to a large portfolio, while it has been a pioneer in the development of high-end sparkling wines in the country, as well as, at the time, it changed the paradigm of the Late Harvest category making a late harvest wine (in the style of Tokaj wines), only in those years that Casablanca allows.

All these outstanding milestones and more are what have made it worthy of important recognitions, such as the one awarded 4 times by the North American media outlet Wine & Spirits as “Vineyard of the Year”. Likewise, Pablo Morandé was recognized in 2017 as a Winemaking Legend by Tim Atkin.

In 2021, Morandé was recognized as “Winery of the Year” at Descorchados 2022, for its dynamic, adventurous and groundbreaking spirit. This award was given for the first time in the history of Descorchados to a Chilean winery. In this same event, House of Morandé 2019 was chosen Best Red from Chile, Best Red Blend and Best Wine from Maipo Andes.
