04 Nov THE BOLD SPARKLING WINES OF VIÑA MORANDÉ
The sparkling wines of Viña Morandé were born from the same restless and pioneering spirit that has guided us since our foundation. It was that same drive that led Pablo Morandé to bet on the then-unknown Casablanca Valley — and, just over two decades ago, to once again push its limits by crafting sparkling wines that could stand among the world’s finest.
The exceptional quality of Casablanca’s chardonnay and pinot noir grapes, already used for still wines, made this leap possible. That’s how Morandé Blanc de Noir came to life: an elegant sparkling wine with a fine and persistent perlage, quickly becoming a collector’s item in the Chilean market. Made entirely from pinot noir and aged on lees for 24 to 54 months, it reveals a creamy texture and remarkable complexity. Its 2013 vintage, in particular, achieved 93 points from Tim Atkin and James Suckling, and 96 from the Guía Descorchados.
True to its curious nature, Morandé continued exploring new expressions. That’s how Morandé Brut K.O. was born — made from the país grape, a rustic, heritage variety that has been part of Chile’s viticultural history since colonial times. With just six months of lees aging, it’s a fresh, approachable sparkling wine that nonetheless upholds the same technical precision and authenticity as our traditional-method cuvées.
Another wine we’re especially proud of is the Brut Nature, crafted from chardonnay and pinot noir from Casablanca. I’m particularly fond of it for its purity and balance: it’s vibrant, intensely fresh, and perfect both for celebrations and for those simple moments that deserve to be remembered. A fun fact: it has been named Best in Chile by Guía Descorchados eleven consecutive times since its release.
Our Morandé Extra Brut, made entirely from chardonnay, beautifully reflects the cool climate and wide temperature variation of its origin. It’s a sparkling wine with delicate bubbles and a dense body, where freshness prevails with elegance and ease.
Over the years, we have built a solid reputation in Chile’s premium sparkling wine scene — a journey still guided by Pablo Morandé’s vision and, to me, a testament to our unique way of crafting wines: with respect for the land, insatiable curiosity, and the conviction that innovation can go hand in hand with tradition.
