Black Series Syrah, Morandé’s New Wine

To the renowned Black Series Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Malleco Valley, today, a third wine joins the lineup: Black Series Syrah. This wine hails from the Limarí Valley and is incorporated into the Black Series range, which highlights wines from Chile’s most extreme valleys.

With an unwavering spirit of exploration and over 25 years of experience traversing Chile’s diverse terroirs, Viña Morandé now reaches one of our country’s most peculiar and striking valleys: the Limarí Valley. Here, drawn by the unique climate and soil conditions, Morandé Black Series Syrah is born. This wine is characterized by its varietal purity and a complex nose featuring black cherries, fresh blackberries, and well-integrated wood notes. On the palate, it has a firm texture, offering an intense wine with great fruit balance and elegance.

Planted in 2012 on vertical trellises, the Black Series Syrah vineyard features intrusive limestone soil, which is common in the coastal area of the Limarí Valley. This location benefits from the low coastal fog, also known as ‘camanchaca,’ which refreshes the vineyard in the mornings and, as it dissipates, allows the vines to receive ample sunlight. Furthermore, the cool coastal breezes directly sweep into the valley, moderating temperatures. Combined with the cloudy mornings, this leads to slow and extended fruit ripening, resulting in elegant and very fresh wines.

Black Series Syrah represents a commitment to the great potential of this valley, enabling us to express this grape variety to its fullest. This wine is distinguished by its freshness, balance, notes of fresh black fruit, and fine tannins.

In addition, Black Series Syrah joins the Black Series portfolio, known for exploring ‘new frontiers’ in winemaking. This portfolio includes varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from one of Chile’s southernmost valleys, Malleco. Now, this Syrah from one of our country’s most arid valleys is added to the mix.
