Find out more about the Morandé Selección de Viñedos line! The line that stands out for its Best Value

Reflecting the pioneering and innovative spirit of Viña Morandé, the Selección de Viñedos line, made up of 8 varieties from the Casablanca and Maipo valleys, represents the winery’s commitment to creating wines with local identity and great balance and complexity.

Founded in 1996 by Pablo Morandé, one of the most renowned winemakers in Chile, Viña Morandé has had a clear focus on innovation since its inception. And this has been demonstrated with the different brands that make up its portfolio. Its Selección de Viñedos Gran Reserva line is no exception, as it reflects the constant effort and commitment of the vineyard to produce wines with local identity.

As its name says, Selección de Viñedos , one of the most important factors when making its wines, is the choice of the specific vineyard within the main denominations of origin in Chile. This choice seeks to identify the ideal place that allows obtaining the maximum expression of the strain that one wants to work with. In the case of Selección de Viñedos, its portfolio is obtained from the denominations of Maipo and Casablanca.

It is important to point out that the line corresponds to the Gran Reserva category within the Viña Morandé portfolio, with premium quality grapes and aged for 12 months in barrels or oenological processes that make wines more complex.

The Selección de Viñedos Gran Reserva portfolio has 8 wines, but today we want to talk specifically about 3. First, we want to highlight Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that comes from the Maipo Valley, and has notes of red fruits such as cassis, plum, and raspberries, as well as notes of tobacco and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is a wine with a firm structure, fine and enveloping tannins, and good persistence, very characteristic of Cabernet del Maipo. James Suckling’s editor, Zekun Shuai awarded it 91 points in his latest report on Chilean wines.

For its part, Carmenère, also from the Maipo Valley, is a purplish-red wine with aromas of intense black fruit and herbs and spices such as cinnamon and cloves. On the palate it is rich in fresh flavors of red fruits with notes of tobacco and black pepper. It is ideal to pair with lean meats, such as duck and turkey. In the last Global Carmenère Master of The Drinks Business, the 2021 vintage obtained a Gold Medal.

Finally, the Sauvignon Blanc, from the Casablanca Valley, is made with grapes with a high aromatic expression and abundant freshness, very typical of the area. It is a wine that remains on its fine lees until bottling to preserve its freshness and increase its volume on the palate. It is very fresh, citric, juicy and intensely fruity and mineral. Its 2022 vintage obtained a Gold Medal and 95 points at the latest Decanter World Wine Awards.
