Terroir Wines, wines with identity and expression of the Maule Valley

Coming from the Maule Valley, Terroir Wines is a line of wines from Viña Morandé that seeks to show the infinite potential of this area, where various red and white varieties have found the ideal place to settle.

The Maule Valley is the largest wine-growing region in Chile and is also the most diverse in geographic and climatic terms, including flat, sunny valleys, coastal hills, and a long central corridor. Currently, it has more than 50,000 hectares planted with wine vines, of which 74% correspond to red vines and 26% to white vines.

The climate of this area is mainly Mediterranean, with great influence of cold wind from the Andes Mountain, which increases the daily thermal oscillation and reduces the period of maximum temperatures, helping the ripening of the fruit in good conditions. Its soils are mostly of granite origin, which have been formed by the decomposition of rocks over millions of years. It is these conditions, of climate and soil, that make red and white vines find in the Maule Valley, particularly in the interior and coastal dry land, the ideal terroir to settle.

In the search to rescue and give value to this area and to all that rich winemaking tradition, Morandé developed the Terroir Wines project, a line of wines from the Maule Valley, which is made from hundred-year-old vines, rescuing the ancient traditions of the region, such as its small artisan producers and its old head-pruned vines. A line of wines that is produced under a modern prism that invites you to get to know that new, old Chile.

The Terroir Wines portfolio has 4 wines; a Carmenère-Malbec with notes of black fruits, cedar and cloves, which is round, smooth and complex on the palate; a Cinsault-País that is medium to light bodied, juicy and bursting with fruit flavors; a Semillón, juicy with great freshness and acidity with notes of citrus fruits, pears and honey: and a País, which stands out for its aromas of red fruits such as raspberries and sour cherries, as well as its light notes of earth and spices reminiscent of the cinnamon.

Each of the examples in this portfolio is made with a great sense of place and identity and seeks to reflect in an emblematic way all the expertise that Viña Morandé has. What each Terroir Wines seeks is to show the extraordinary value of being a wine that comes from the Maule Valley, a unique terroir in the world.
