Vitis Única: Wines that honor the vines and the terroir

Vitis Única is a portfolio of traditional grape varieties with outstanding origins and unconventional winemaking techniques, resulting from a journey of exploration, passion, and dedication.

Since its inception, Viña Morandé has been persistent in experimentation and the quest for wines that are unprecedented in the industry. These are wines meant to surprise not only due to the high quality of their grape varieties but also because they come from different appellations of origin and are crafted through various winemaking methods.

Thus, Vitis Única is born, a line of wines, much like Morandé’s portfolio, recognized for its high quality and innovation, attracting curious consumers in search of unique and exceptional wines. These are wines from traditional grape varieties selected from specific sectors within each of their terroirs. This selection, combined with unconventional winemaking techniques such as manual foot stomping, fermentation with stems, use of foudres, lagares, cement eggs, and ceramic tanks, to name a few, results in wines of great complexity, structure, and elegance.

In Vitis Única, terroir is paramount. Through the selection of specific sectors in each of their vineyards, the portfolio seeks to enhance the typicity of each variety. Thus, these wines come from the main valleys of Chile: Casablanca, Maipo, and Maule.

The Casablanca Valley is the cold climate valley par excellence in the country, ideal for white varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as fresh reds like Pinot Noir. From this origin come Vitis Única Chardonnay, a wine of great freshness and volume, unctuous, delicate, with a delightful balance between acidity and fruit; Vitis Única Sauvignon Blanc, complex in flavors, fresh, mineral with citrus notes of grapefruit, herbs, and white peach skin; and Vitis Única Pinot Noir, an intense, very fruity and floral wine, with good body, elegance, complexity, and persistence.

The Maipo Valley is another of Chile’s most emblematic valleys, known for exceptional conditions for growing Bordeaux varieties, especially Cabernet Sauvignon. Vitis Única Cabernet Sauvignon stands out for its great body, abundant velvety tannins, and great aging potential; and Vitis Única Carmenère, a fruity, complex wine with earthy flavors and massive yet velvety tannins.

Finally, the Maule Valley is the largest wine region in Chile and the most diverse in terms of geography and climate, including flat and sunny valleys, coastal hills, and a long central corridor. The climate in this area is mainly Mediterranean, with a significant influence of cold wind from the Andes, increasing daily temperature oscillation and reducing the period of maximum temperatures, aiding fruit ripening in good conditions.

From this area comes Vitis Única Mouvedre, an unusual proposal within Chilean wine portfolios. It is a little-explored grape variety but with great potential, and in this wine, it translates into freshness, intense aromas, and an elegant body.
